I am thrilled to announce that I have received word that my play “By the Neon Lights of the Taco Bell Sign” has been selected for inclusion in The Best 10-Minute Plays 2023 by Smith & Kraus, Inc., edited by Debbie Lamedman, expected out in October 2023.
In “By the Neon Lights of the Taco Bell Sign,” two broke college students, Ginna and Chrissy, make a late night run to Taco Bell. As Chrissy uses loose change to grab the grub, Ginna has a chance encounter with Trinity, who bums a cigarette and offers some advice, the kind of advice one can only get outside a Taco Bell late at night.
“By the Neon Lights of the Taco Bell Sign” was produced in 2022 by Ixion Ensemble as part of an evening of short plays about food entitled “Let’s Eat.” It was directed by Nick Lemmer, and featured Storm Kopitsch, Jillian Tosolt, and Sarah Lynn. “Let’s Eat” won local awards (The Thespies) for Best Ensemble and Best Original Play in the Lansing State Journal.
This marks the second of my 10-minutes plays to be anthologized. “On Robots and Raindrops” was published last year in Ten-Minute Play Festival, Volume Four: 2018 – 2021 by Theatre Odyssey, edited by Don Walker. This volume is already available on Amazon.
For the time being “By the Neon Lights of the Taco Bell Sign” will remain available on the New Play Exchange.
